Experiential Learning

CCNH recognizes that learning often takes place outside of the classroom. We have designed our experiential learning program to give you the opportunity to receive college credit based on knowledge and skills acquired through professional and personal life experiences. Up to 30 credit hours of prior learning credit may be awarded to fulfill courses in the general education portion of the undergraduate programs.

To help you assess both formal work experiences and life learning:

  • Review the course descriptions and learning objectives online for each course for which you are interested in obtaining credit.
  • Provide documentation of your knowledge and skills based on your experience as related to the specific CCNH general education course objectives.

Learning takes place in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Work Experience.
  • Licensure or Certification.
  • Specialized Training.
  • Conference or Seminars.
  • Military Training.
  • Other accomplishments such as authored publications, non-credit courses, volunteerism, and community projects.

Documentation of life and work experience may include, but is not limited to:

  • Resume or CV.
  • Copies of transcripts, diplomas, certificates of completion, continuing education credits. or training program agendas.
  • Letters of recommendation, work samples, certificates of completion from workshops, performance evaluations, or job descriptions.
  • DD214, resumes, awards, other government papers.
  • Copies of publications authored by the applicant such as bulletins, news articles, or Web sites.

Document packets will be evaluated by both the college's registrar and faculty who have expertise in the discipline and the specific course content for which the candidate is seeking credit. The evaluators compare the candidate's level of learning to the stated learning objectives of the course.

You may submit your life and work application online or you may download the form. In order to be considered for life or work credits, forms must be submitted no later than 30 days after enrolling.
