New Student Chat, with Holly Cowan

Courtney Grammer: Welcome to the CCNH Chat Room. We are glad you’ve joined us. CCNH offers holistic nutrition and natural health education; we do not diagnose or dispense nutritional/health advice. We invite you to peruse our Resource links in the Students and Alumni Services area to get a jumpstart on researching any personal health issues.

Holly Cowan: Hello – My name is Holly and I will be hosting tonights chat – “welcome new students and welcome back students”

Patrick Hatwan: same here

Hamdellia Bernard: :)

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: I have children there and go as much as I can

Rebecca Covey: My first week too!

Angela Haynes: Actually I was there with friends New Years Eve

Rebecca Covey: Hello

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Hello

Hamdellia Bernard: Hello

Holly Cowan: I thought I would open the floor for any questions that you all may have...

Terri Scott: Hello Holly..Thank You!

Jurist Willis–Gordon: This is my first week in the program

Angela Haynes: Well time to start class I guess

Holly Cowan: Does anyone have any specific questions about getting started with your program?

Patrick Hatwan: I have been at it for one month

Patrick Hatwan: and I just now have one test to submit

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: This is my first week in chat room

Rebecca Covey: Can you give us some hints about online testing?

Margaret Jones: any suggestion on how to set up study schedule?

Hamdellia Bernard: I’ve only just got my books last week

Denise Passerello: Holly, do we need to over think Staying Healthy with Nutrition?

Nira Colon: Hello, just joined in

Angela Haynes: Holly some of us are having problems getting motivated to read and study on our own any suggestions?

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Yes, I would like to know how to get started in testing on line have tried several times and can’t seem to get any where can you help

Jurist Willis–Gordon: I have just received my books and I’m not sure how to begin

Patrick Hatwan: I commit two hours daily

Meredith Brown: Holly, I’ve just received my textbooks, is there a suggested pace for study?

Jamala Armstrong: Hello, this is my first time here, just enrolled

Angela Haynes: I think we are nervous about the online testing and doing it all on our own

Holly Cowan: Margaret – good question...I always have suggested getting a weekly planner – I use one for daily purposes – try to look at your weekly schedule and determine what days are best for you – free time, etc – that you can devote to your CCNH studies – I.e. Read on Sunday evening and take a test on Tuesday...

Holly Cowan: Angela – I think that once you make it through a course you will have your momentum – but like I said earlier it may help to schedule a specific time of the week to read, study, take exams, etc. Setting a side and devoting that time to your studies can be beneficial

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Yes but Ms Cowan when getting your books to start with it is a little bit much at first

Nira Colon: I just started. I try to get two hours a night and a little more on weekend. It is hard after full day work

Angela Haynes: I think this chat is helping me just knowing others are in the same boat as myself

Nancy Harrison: Holly, question: I just received my enrollment agreement. To ensure a proper understanding of the terms and conditions, do you suggest a review by an attorney?

Margaret Jones: would you recommend study groups?

Holly Cowan: Theresa – regarding online testing – first you need to make sure that your coursework is available in online testing by using the Course availability link under Online Testing on the CCNH Web site – once you have determined that your coursework is available in online testing you simply fill out and submit the Course Selection Form – this form is found under Online Testing on the CCNH Web site (under Student & Graduate Services) –

Angela Haynes: I am up for study chats Margaret what are you studying?

Holly Cowan: Meredith – I know that for me – it’s best to study in a place with no distractions – sometimes going to the library is helpful other times I just need to get in a room that is quite and shut the door (no t.v. or radio)

Margaret Jones: MS in Holistic Nut

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Thanks you I’ll try again tomorrow and see if I or my sister from EKU can help If not then I’ll call college again and see if that works thanks

Jurist Willis–Gordon: I like the idea of study chat

Jamala Armstrong: Is anyone doing the doctor of naturopathy degree

Patrick Hatwan: YES}

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: yes

Patrick Hatwan: I am

Hamdellia Bernard: yes

Rebecca Covey: Study chat, good idea, yes, I’m doing the ND first

THAIDAANETTE STOVALL: Yes

Margaret Shay: yes

Angela Haynes: Great Jurist your ND?

Patrick Hatwan: DN here

Patrick Hatwan: sorry

Meredith Brown: I mean is there a suggested timeline, or can I go at a faster or slower pace than others...

Holly Cowan: Nancy – I don’t think it’s necessary to have an attorney review the enrollment agreement but if you feel comfortable in asking an attorney to look at it that’s okay – you can speak to your admissions advisor should you need further information or if you are confused about an item

Angela Haynes: Yes Jamala

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Is anyone doing Ph.D. Holistic Nutrition

Laurie Saylor: I am going for the doctor of Naturopathy – however it is the one for health care professionals. any one else??

Rebecca Covey: I am doing the Ph.D. Holistic Nutrition, but it will be second to the ND

Terri Scott: PhD Holistic Nutrition is my goal!

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Angela I would like to study chat too

Jheni Solis: I’m a new student, going for my BS in Natural Health... Hello everyone...

Nira Colon: I’m doing my Ph.D. in holistic nutrition, just started

Jamala Armstrong: I know it varies in how you use your ND but any ideas as of now as far as what you’ll do with it (ND)

Angela Haynes: Great Theresa let’s set a time before we log off

Holly Cowan: Theresa – I think that once you go through the motions it will go more smoothly the next time around – The Online Testing Manual in the back of your Student Handbook is a helpful resource as well ...

Nancy Harrison: Margaret, I am studying for the MS in Holistic Nutrition

Terri Scott: Laurie...what do you mean “the one for health care professionals?”

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: ok that would be great

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Hi Angela, Terri nice to meet you

Denise Passerello: So maybe I missed the answer to the Staying Healthy with Nutrition question?

Hamdellia Bernard: What other options are available for monthly payments?

Terri Scott: Hi Jurist!

Jheni Solis: Any New Students here???

THAIDAANETTE STOVALL: It would be helpful to discuss the "projects" with someone, so I’m game for the study chat

Angela Haynes: Jurist we will set a time for study chat before logging off

Margaret Jones: Nancy we should stay in touch

Jamala Armstrong: Yes I’m a new student

Terri Scott: Theresa...I would like to be in on that study group, too..??

Jheni Solis: For BS Degrees?

Holly Cowan: Meredith – you can work at your own pace – students report that on average a course takes them anywhere from three to eight weeks to complete –

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Perhaps we can study together sometime Terri

Cindy Griffin: Yes I am new, just received my student handbook today

Rebecca Covey: Holly, what type of things should we talk with our faculty advisor about? Should we ask questions about readings and assignments once in a while? Is that okay?

Meredith Brown: thanks Holly...

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Thanks after talking to my sister she helped me alot about get started and study right again. she just finished her Master with EKU and working on PHD in ED she help me get more settled in studying and not feeling overwhelmed

Jheni Solis: Hi Cindy... I’m glad that I’m not the only new one here.

Meredith Brown: I’m working towards the Doctorate in Natural Health

Angela Haynes: Jheni most of us are new our 1st chat

Laurie Saylor: Under health care professional programs, if you have a bachelors and are a registered health care professional you can go straight for the Naturopathy.

Liz Zeigler: I am doing the Natural Wellness Certificate for Healthcare Professionals. Anyone else?

Cindy Griffin: Hi Jheni – welcome aboard

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: I do hope with Chats I’ll get back into studying again Do you recommend that we attended these chats with the college

Rebecca Covey: Even though I start my Ph.D. Holistic Nutrition second, I’d like to see some of the chats

Holly Cowan: Rebecca – I always suggest contacting your faculty advisor with any questions that you may have regarding your program – they can assist you or direct you to the appropriate person for assistance. Faculty are familiar with the courses that they grade and can answer any questions that you may have about the coursework.

Shelly Detken: Hello everyone! I just started started the BS/Holistic Nutrition program

Laurie Saylor: Liz I am going for the Natural Wellness Cert. for Health

Beverly Bucher: Hello, I am new as well.

Holly Cowan: Thaidaanette – we have a project tips page on the CCNH Web site – there you can locate additional information – helpful tips for some of the course projects

Jheni Solis: Welcome, Beverly!

Terri Scott: That is a good idea, Jurist...

Jheni Solis: Hi Shelly! Welcome! I’m working on my BS in Natural Health

THAIDAANETTE STOVALL: Thank you, Holly

Angela Haynes: So Holly what you are saying is if we are having problems understanding course material we ask our faculty advisor?

Alexandra Barroukh: who wants to do a study group for bachelor of NH

Shelly Detken: Thanks Jheni!!

Holly Cowan: Katherine – you should receive a welcome letter from your faculty advisor within a week after enrolling –

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Terri let me know and I would like to study too I need all the help I can get

Beverly Bucher: Ok all, I am really knew to all this. I have a slight problem. I just filled out the online form for testing and forgot to put in the advisor’s name. Who do I need to email about this?

Nancy Harrison: Holly, What is the average completion time for an MS program? What is the maximum allowed?

Denise Passerello: Holly, I appreciate all of your help, but maybe in the future CCNH may consider having more chats or at least more teachers on one chat. It has been great............

Terri Scott: Theresa...I just don’t know how we arrange something like that,do you??..do we just say a certain time and try to be there??

Denise Passerello: Have a wonderful evening!

Alexandra Barroukh: IS ANYONE FROM MIAMI

Rebecca Covey: I think you can pick a chat room and a time to organize a study chat

Holly Cowan: Theresa – chats are really beneficial to students as it’s a way for them to network with their peers, discuss the a particular topic/ share knowledge about a particular subject in natural health or nutrition, etc. It also allows for a sense of connection to your peers

Angela Haynes: Terri yes and Jurist & I are interested as well

Meredith Brown: bye Denise

Rebecca Covey: Bye denise

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Terri, maybe if we get each other’s email we can arrange them at random

Denise Passerello: Good–bye Meredith ad Rebecca

Terri Scott: Holly...How do we arrange a study chat?

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Terri I think we would have to all agree on a time and all sign in I think

Meredith Brown: Holly, do we have access to other students emails?

Shelly Detken: Anyone from Southern California?

Jheni Solis: Shelly, I used to live in So Cal...

Jheni Solis: Now I’m in TX

Jamala Armstrong: Anyone from Louisiana

Elizabeth Corso: Anyone from CT?

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Ms Cowan do we arrange chats through the college or on are own

Beverly Bucher: I am from St. Louis.

THAIDAANETTE STOVALL: Anyone from NE

Liz Zeigler: Jheni, I’m from Texas too. DFW area

Holly Cowan: Denise – thank you for your feedback and we are always open to suggestions – our chat schedule is every Tuesday at 4PM Central Standard Time, with exception of the first Tuesday of each month – it’s now of course at 8PM – the chat calendar is posted so that students are able to view our chat schedule for the month – there are various experts, faculty advisor and other CCNH staff that host chats

Jheni Solis: Shelly, I lived in L. A. for 23 years before moving to TX last year

Margaret Shay: I am from kansas City, MO

Patrick Hatwan: can do them on your own Theresa

Rebecca Covey: I think we ought to have a study group meet in each state once a month – road trip – lol

Tina Giovannucci: I am from Michigan

Shelly Detken: Jheni, I’m in Orange County. You like TX?

Beverly Bucher: sounds great for the road trip

Shelly Detken: Road trip...cool.

Jheni Solis: I love it! I don’t even miss my favorite hang out (Malibu)

Nancy Harrison: Beverly and Margaret, I am originally from Missouri, and now I live in Chicago. My brother now lives in KC.

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Patrick do we do them through college or our own IM’s on line

Holly Cowan: Regarding study groups – CCNH has a reference map on which many states already have student/ graduate groups formed – I would encourage each of you to check out your state to see if a student/ graduate group has already been organized

Jheni Solis: Shelly – I love O. C. I used to hang out in the Irvine area when I was younger

Margaret Jones: I am from Silver Spring Maryland

Patrick Hatwan: you can log in here...and pick a chat room on your own

Rebecca Covey: Holly, how do we get our email on the map?

Tina Giovannucci: Nancy, where in Chicago?

Shelly Detken: Jheni – OC has its upside, definitely. A little stuffy though...hard to find a good veg. restaurant.

Holly Cowan: Theresa – you can contact the Webmaster to arrange a particular time to have a chat in one of or chat rooms – those chats will be un moderated

Beverly Bucher: Hi Holly, I filled out the online testing form for test course but forgot to fill in the advisors name. Is there anybody I need to contact about this?

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Thanks Ms COwan, And Thanks Patrick have you done this before

Holly Cowan: Beverly – not a problem – the IT department can pull up your student record and verify your faculty advisor

Patrick Hatwan: You can simply log in to the chat room and pick whichever room you wish

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Thanks again now we all know how to chat and where to go

Angela Haynes: Study chats sound great Terri, Jurist, Theresa we were all here at 8pm our time do you want to do that same time later this week?

Nancy Harrison: Rebecca, I live in Glenview, about 20 mile north of the city.

Patrick Hatwan: you do not need to access CCNH admin for chat

Rebecca Covey: Glenview Ohio?

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: yes that would be great just say when

Beverly Bucher: Great. Thanks. I was worried about that. THis is my first time doing any of this. I am nervous. I am used to attending classes with other students.

Jheni Solis: Shelly – You’re telling me! I lived near Studio City/Sherman Oaks area, so there were plenty of Vegetarian restaurants out there... That’s one thing I miss; Here in Dallas, it’s a carnivorous city! I’m always cooking at home now...

Holly Cowan: Rebecca – you can e–mail the webmaster about posting your e–mail address contact on your state reference map – or you can e–mail your faculty advisor and they will forward it to the webmaster – we rotate e–mail contacts on each state reference map – usually quarterly

Shelly Detken: Beverly – I hear ya....its weird!

Terri Scott: 8pm is OK... I can also chat during the day...??

Rebecca Covey: thanks

Patrick Hatwan: YES Terri,....any time you wish

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Yes Angela, good idea

Beverly Bucher: Glad I am not the only one who feels that way, Shelly.

Angela Haynes: Terri, Jurist & anyone else is Thursday 8pm EST ok with you?

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: yes 8 pm ok and I can chat during day too

Nancy Harrison: Tina, sorry I directed my comment to Rebecca. I live in Glenview, IL (north of the city).

Shelly Detken: Jheni – Santa Barbara...now that’s the place to be for good veg. food!

Angela Haynes: I can chat during the day as well

Margaret Jones: Nancy H. can we try to set up a time to meet before we log off?

Holly Cowan: Terri – you can chat with others during the day at any time really – you will just need to make sure that you have people to chat with – the hosted chats are each Tuesday at 4PM with exception of the first monthly chat which is at 8PM – you can inquire about setting aside a specific time to chat with our webmaster –

Terri Scott: Yes! I will be here! Barring unforeseen circumstances.Ha1

Rebecca Covey: Who again is in Ohio, I’m writing it down his time!

Holly Cowan: Elizabeth – this chat is for new students and students returning to their studies with CCNH – each week is a different topic however

Angela Haynes: Thanks, Holly

Shelly Detken: Jheni – me too! would like to live there someday.

Terri Scott: Anybody else available in the daytime hours??

Elizabeth Corso: This one is posted for “welcome new students?”

Jheni Solis: SLO is my favorite city! Monterey is second.

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: yes I’m most days

Holly Cowan: Please let me know if we have any other questions pertaining to our chat topic – getting started/ restarted

Shelly Detken: Terri – I’m available in the daytime.

Nancy Harrison: Margaret J – Yes that would be great. Are we the only students in our area of study (MS in Holistic Nutrition)?

Angela Haynes: Yes Terri Theresa & I

Elizabeth Corso: Thanks Holly.

Jheni Solis: Shelly, my e–mail address is jksolis@ccnh.edu... Drop me a line sometime.

Shelly Detken: Am I the only one for BS Holistic Nutrition?

Hamdellia Bernard: what about other payment options other than automatic withdrawals

Rebecca Covey: Hamdellia, is your email on the CCNH map?

Hamdellia Bernard: I don’t know?

Terri Scott: I am BS Holistic Nutrition at the moment, too...

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Ms Cowan about the projects do we email them with the test or do we do them separate

Milca Jeune: Alexandra– I also live in Miami. We need to exchange Phone numbers and E–mail

Hamdellia Bernard: I’m new to all of this

Holly Cowan: Does anyone have any questions about getting started with your program, questions about the program in general, etc. You can always stay after the hosted chat has concluded

Hamdellia Bernard: how do I check

Elizabeth Corso: Where is the link for finding people in a certain state?

Beverly Bucher: Holly, do you know an average of how long it takes for someone to complete the BS in Natural Health?

Alexandra Barroukh: anyone doing BS in NH

Jheni Solis: Anyone BS Natural Health?

Margaret Shay: Shelly, I am taking the BS Holistic Nutrition/ ND

Rebecca Covey: Hamdellia, Holly just said you may email the email to your faculty advisor to be posted

Holly Cowan: Beverly – on average I would say that it takes most students 22–24 months to complete a bachelor degree – some more quickly and some a little longer

Alexandra Barroukh: jHENI LET’S EXCANGE EMAIL

Shelly Detken: Terri / Margaret – how long have you been enrolled?

Hamdellia Bernard: ok

Margaret Shay: Just beginning

Terri Scott: since November

Shelly Detken: margaret – me too....this week.

Terri Scott: But just getting a good start!

Jamala Armstrong: Holly about how long does it take to complete the ND with a 40–45 hr job

Beverly Bucher: Thanks. Also, on the projects, can these be done online as well or do these get mailed in? I think someone might have answered that but I couldn’t tell.

Holly Cowan: Elizabeth – you can locate the reference map under Meet our student and graduates link on the CCNH web site

Hamdellia Bernard: what’s yours rebecca

Milca Jeune: Alexandra––I am studying BS/ND. Let ’s exchange e–mail

Nancy Harrison: Holly, is 22–24 months the same for a master’s? What is the maximum allowed?

Elizabeth Corso: Thanks Holly...

Liz Zeigler: Laurie, when did you begin your program?

Shelly Detken: Terri – I have a feeling it takes a while to get a flow going...am I right?

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Milca and Alexandra I am studying BS/ND also

Angela Haynes: Ok so we are doing a Study Chat Thursday night at 8pm everyone join in for this Study Group

Hamdellia Bernard: thanks rebecca

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: ok Angela I should be there 8 pm right

Laurie Saylor: Liz, I have just started .... I ave not even received the books yet. how about you??

Dana Gall: anybody registered for doctor of naturopathy? and Holly how long it takes to grad?

Hamdellia Bernard: Let’s keep in touch

Angela Haynes: That’s 8pm EST

Holly Cowan: Jamala – it’s tough to provide an exact time especially when someone is working – it just really depends on how much time that individual has per week to set aside for their studies – I mentioned earlier that students report it takes them anywhere from three to eight weeks to complete a course – maybe this will help you in estimated a particular timeframe for you ND program – I will say that it seems most ND students complete their degree program within three years.

Jamala Armstrong: I’m doing the ND but I haven’t started yet

Alexandra Barroukh: THERESA WHAT IS YOUR EMAIL

Liz Zeigler: I am doing the second course now. Just started my studies in Jan.

Terri Scott: Shelly..it was like that for me...had a lot of stuff going on and it took me awhile to sort through and get a feel for how things worked before I could concentrate enough to begin actually studying/reading course material...

Jheni Solis: Everyone, I’m logging off... It was good chatting with all of you. Have a great evening!

Rebecca Covey: Holly, don’t leave us yet! I am trying to keep up with all this:) I missed something about posting projects. Do we type them in or attach them?

Shelly Detken: You too Jheni....I’ll email you sometime!

Angela Haynes: Me too Terri

Holly Cowan: Dana – did you mean how long does it take to complete an ND program or how long does it take for a graduation to be processed once the student has completed all coursework requirements for a program

Jheni Solis: Shelly, I look forward to your e–mails!

Terri Scott: It is helpful to know I am not alone...

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Terri, here is my email jumawill@aol.com feel free to contact me

Laurie Saylor: Which course did you take first?

Dana Gall: how long to complete program

Liz Zeigler: NH101

Shelly Detken: Terri – I find it easy to become distracted with other things around the house. I need to really work on keeping my “seat” in my seat!

Terri Scott: I will be here at 8 Thurs.eve.....Theresa and all....and will check in during the day and see if anyone is here...will try and learn how this works!!!

Beverly Bucher: Hi Holly, do we mail in the projects, do them online; attach them? I am confused!

Holly Cowan: Dana – I listed above that most students in an ND program usually take around three years – but some move more quickly and others a little bit more slowly – all degree programs have a five year timeframe in which we request they to be completed

Margaret Jones: Nancy H I am not sure if any one else is enrolled in MS in Holistic Nutrition

Holly Cowan: Rebecca – I am not leaving – we have another 30 mins – the chat is for an hour – 8PM Central Standard Time to 9PM Central Standard TIme

Dana Gall: thank you Holly! anybody from Colorado in ND?

Laurie Saylor: any words of wisdom? This has been a dream for quite a few years. good to get started.

Rebecca Covey: Holly, if I am doing dual programs, does the time frame start for the second one after I complete the first one?

Shelly Detken: Laurie – good for you...following your dream!

Terri Scott: Jurist...thank you...where are you from?..

Elizabeth Corso: nancy, I am in the MS in holistic nutrition

Nancy Harrison: Margaret, I am going to sign off. Would love to chat with you as we progress through the program. As I noted, I live near Chicago. Where are you from?

Holly Cowan: Beverly – you have the option of mailing in your coursework or submitting it online – this includes projects – you will upload your project file if you are submitting through WebCT (online testing) The Online Testing Manual at the back of your student handbook will have instructions on how to complete

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Terri, I am from Miami,

Terri Scott: Rebecca...did I read somewhere earlier you are from around Dayton???

Beverly Bucher: thank you. just really nervous about messing all of this up. thanks for the assistance. Bye everyone. Nice to have chatted with you.

Holly Cowan: Rebecca – good question – you will have five years to complete each degree program – the graduation date from your first degree program will be the “start” date for your next degree program –

Margaret Shay: Nancy, not sure which Margaret you are talking to, I am from Kansas City an would love to chat.

Angela Haynes: I say we take that road trip to study at Jurist in Miami where it is warm!

Rebecca Covey: Terri, yes, Dayton Ohio

Jamala Armstrong: the project everyone’s talking about, is that for the end of your program

Margaret Jones: Silver Spring Maryland, Thanks Nancy

Rebecca Covey: got it

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Good idea Angela

Elizabeth Corso: Is anyone in the MS in Holistic nutrition?

Shelly Detken: It’s warm here too...in sunny So Cal!

Holly Cowan: Sherry – if anything I sometimes need to set a specific time in which I will not get out of my seat...I usually try to stay put for 30 mins to an hour and then I take a break...

Terri Scott: in YES!!

Laurie Saylor: would love to!! Mine is long . I’m from macon, ga

Alexandra Barroukh: JURIST IM ALSO FROM MIAMI

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: yes Angela good Idea here it freezing cold here in Kentucky right now

Rebecca Covey: Terri, where are you?

Terri Scott: I am in the middle of a blizzard right now!!!

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: me too

Terri Scott: hardin County...

Milca Jeune: Theresa and Alexandra–

Shelly Detken: Terri – that’s what ya get for leaving CA!

Jamala Armstrong: Holly, is the project everyone is speaking of the one at the end of their program or something else

Angela Haynes: Hey Laurie we’re neighbors!

Margaret Jones: Elizabeth...Nancy and I

Rebecca Covey: Terri, where exactly in Hardin County?

Patricia MarshallPearson: Holly, does the assigned faculty advisor routinely contact the student to see how things are going?

Elizabeth Corso: Are you and Nancy just starting out?

Nancy Harrison: Margaret S. – Margaret J and I are in Holistic Nutrition so we plan to keep in touch as we proceed. What program are you in?

Katherine Liu: Milca– what program are you doing?

Laurie Saylor: Angela, where is home for you??

Alexandra Barroukh: JURIST WHERE ARE YOU

Angela Haynes: Just north of Atlanta

Milca Jeune: BS/ND

Terri Scott: I am about 100 miles North of Dayton...I live in the country...outside of Kenton..

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: BS/ND

Margaret Jones: Elizabeth I am just getting started

Holly Cowan: Laurie – I think that once you go through the first course you will find it that you will set a pace for yourself for your other courses – all the courses are formatted alike therefore you will know what to expect with the other courses that lie ahead – also the course overview for each course (usually the third or 4th page back in the required study guide) will list your reading and testing assignments – they are sectioned off so that you are biting off small pieces at a time

Katherine Liu: I’m doing BS and Doctorate in NH

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Sorry guys I had to pause for a minute

Shelly Detken: Sorry Terri....this is confusing with all these people. got you mixed up with Jheni! Sorry!

Terri Scott: Glad you are back!!!

Elizabeth Corso: I am located in CT, 30 mins from NYC. I am just starting course work too...

Holly Cowan: Jamala – regarding projects – projects are required in some of your courses –

Rebecca Covey: Terri, is your email on the CCNH map? I plan to get mine there soon. Hamdellia is in Ohio too. I am a teacher, so this is a good sign for a day off tomorrow, again.

Terri Scott: That is OK Shelly...I’m having a pretty hard timekeeping up myself...I don’t talk this fast!!

Nancy Harrison: Elizabeth – I am just on the first course, but I did 3 courses through another college.

Liz Zeigler: Really, these chat rooms boggle my brain!

Angela Haynes: So Holly when we are having trouble comprehending the course material we are to ask our faculty advisor for understanding tips?

Shelly Detken: I thought it was just me!

Elizabeth Corso: Margaret and Nancy keep in touch...

Jurist Willis–Gordon: It is little busy here , I am trying to keep tract of Holistic Nutrition folk

Terri Scott: Rebecca...my sister is a teacher!!..I’m happy to meet you....I don’t know if the email is on this map thing or not–––

Patricia MarshallPearson: HI HOLLY. DOES THE ASSIGNED FACULTY ADVISOR ROUTINELY CONTACT THE STUDENT TO SEE HOW THINGS ARE GOING??

Holly Cowan: Any other questions that I might have missed about getting started with your program? Please note that this chat room will be open after the chat concludes should you wish to stay and chat longer, swap e–mails, etc.

Rebecca Covey: I really do like how the study guides are set up...small steps are nice.

Laurie Saylor: Angela, not too far at all from macon

Alexandra Barroukh: JURIST IM FROM MIAMI TOO

Elizabeth Corso: Nancy, good 4 u. You are ahead of the game. Which classes have you completed?

Jamala Armstrong: Holly, what do students normally do with their ND

Alexandra Barroukh: KATHERINE WHAT IS YOUR EMAIL

Elizabeth Corso: Holly,

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Alexandra, where in Miami are you

Holly Cowan: Patricia – we let the student set their own pace – however if we see that a student hasn’t submitted coursework in over three months we will send out a reminder e–mail – trying to encourage our students to continue with their coursework – we do realize that life happens and sometimes studies need to be set aside – that is the beauty in a self paced, independent study program

Rebecca Covey: Terri, let’s exchange emails after this new student chat

Elizabeth Corso: Holly, I sent all the required paperwork to start testing. How do I know if you have received my forms?

Alexandra Barroukh: MIAMI BEACH

Milca Jeune: Anyone plan to attend the conference?

Nancy Harrison: Margaret J and Elizabeth – I will email you both so we can begin our communication. I have completed the sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Phys

Terri Scott: Holly...I am ready to pick a topic for the first "project"...in the NH121 course...I understand it says any subject for a research paper...but could you give some ideas of what people have chosen in the past??...

Jurist Willis–Gordon: I am in Pembroke Pines

Alexandra Barroukh: NOT FAR

Alexandra Barroukh: WHAT IS YOUR EMAIL

Shelly Detken: Signing off everybody. Gotta get dinner out of the oven. This has been neat...thanks all. Good luck!

Rebecca Covey: Eat well

Milca Jeune: South Miami

Angela Haynes: Laurie only about 2 good hours from Macon

Rebecca Covey: Shelly

Holly Cowan: Elizabeth – if you submitted coursework through the mail you can check your My CCNH account – there you can view dates of coursework received, scores obtained on graded tests and overall course averages – if you have submitted the Course Selection Form to register your courses for online testing you will receive a confirmation e–mail once your request is processed

Elizabeth Corso: Nancy, you are an inspiration...

Elizabeth Corso: Thanks again Holly

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Alex. what’s yours

Rebecca Covey: Holly, I remember this in the handbook, but how much real time does it usually take to get the grades back if you submit online

Holly Cowan: Terri – massage therapy, acupuncture, reflexology, etc – any aspect of natural health is fine to write about – something that your interested in.

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: at lost every one for a minute

Katherine Liu: Thanks Alexandra

Terri Scott: OK..thanx Holly :)

Nancy Harrison: Have a good evening everyone.

Rebecca Covey: Bye Nancy

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: sorry about them

Laurie Saylor: Angela my schedule is crazy but maybe lunch one day when I go to atlanta for wholesale food market could be fun.

Margaret Jones: Night Nancy

Elizabeth Corso: Good night from me too...best of luck to all.

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: be glad to help if I can

Holly Cowan: Jamala – most graduates of our ND program go into some type of consulting – the ND program is a practitioner focused program

Margaret Shay: I am attending the conference, anyone else?

Angela Haynes: That sounds great Laurie. I’m headed to Thomasville soon and will time it so we can meet

Margaret Jones: Will be in touch Elizabeth

Liz Zeigler: Signing off. Happy studying to everyone!

Terri Scott: Goodnight everyone..it has been a joy meeting you all..hope to talk with you again....

Rebecca Covey: Bye Liz

Laurie Saylor: good night liz and angela

Rebecca Covey: Terri, I’ll email, night

Angela Haynes: Bye Terri chat Thursday

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: nice to have meat you Terri

Jurist Willis–Gordon: Good night Terri

Dana Gall: Holly, what kind of consulting for ND (I assume ND with no MD )?

Laurie Saylor: Angela my email is already posted in the chat. email me.

Angela Haynes: OK I got it

Margaret Jones: Patricia we are exchanging addresses so we will can stay in touch for study chats

Patricia MarshallPearson: WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO PARTICPATE IN THE CONFERENCE SO THAT I CAN MEET MY PEERS AND PARTICIPATE IN THE VARIOUS SEMINARS.

Holly Cowan: Dana – natural health, nutrition, lifestyle, etc. consulting – educating others...MD signifies a Medical Doctor –

Jamala Armstrong: Holly, I’m interested in what Dana just asked as well. You can still have your own consulting practice even though you’re not a medical dr.

Rebecca Covey: Holly, I am sure I will have more questions as I go, all too new right now, will there be more chats for the new students – another Tuesday chat for new students?

Angela Haynes: Holly is there a big difference with an ND from Clayton College vs. a fully accredited college through say SAKS with an ND?

Holly Cowan: Patricia – regarding the conference – we’ll have sharing circles and breaks in between sessions – we also have free time to so that you can visit with the other attendees and we’ll have a networking event. Did you have any questions about getting started with your program?

Rebecca Covey: Angela, good question, I wonder as well

Patricia MarshallPearson: WHAT ARE SHARING CIRCLES AND BREAKS BETWEEN SESSIONS AND HOW CAN I PARTAKE?

Holly Cowan: Angela – I am not sure that I know what SAKS is – CCNH teaches traditionally naturopathy which does not include training in allopathy nor do we train our students to perform minor invasive procedures – which is what naturopathic physicians are trained in.

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Ms Cowan is it better to do a Research or one of the other projects

Rebecca Covey: Holly, I know we are to check laws in our states, but if there are ND consultants in the state, is the ND recognized from all institutions equally?

Angela Haynes: oops! SACS Southern Accreditation of Colleges S

Dana Gall: I wonder how having a consulting practice on educating people when most are interested in being treated for diseases

Angela Haynes: It gives all the schools there accreditation for the southeast US there are 5 such orgs in US

Holly Cowan: Jamala – you can have your own consulting practice – this is what the majority of our graduates in the practitioner–focused programs go on to do after they graduate – you might want to check out the Meet our Student and Graduate link on the Web site – there you will see what our students and graduates are doing with their CCNH education – you can link directly to their web sites, etc.

Rebecca Covey: Holly, because I wonder if as I start my program study, should I focus more on areas that are of more current acceptance in my state, or should I just go as my study directs me and hope the col. works well for Ohio laws? Does that make any sense

Holly Cowan: REbecca – that would depend upon the state in which you live – each state is different

Patricia MarshallPearson: HI HOLLY. I DON’T HAVE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS RIGHT NOW. SOME QUES THAT THE STUDENTS HAVE ALREADY ASKED HAVE BEEN HELPFUL. THANKS.

Alexandra Barroukh: milca where are you from miami

Alexandra Barroukh: Katherine where are you from

Margaret Shay: Nice chatting. Enjoy you evening...bye

Margaret Jones: Holly thanks for all the answers

Angela Haynes: So Holly do you think that will make a huge difference one we graduate? The allopathy & minor invasive procedures?

Holly Cowan: Rebecca – it does make sense and I would encourage you to investigate your state laws, scope of practice, title protection, etc. You may also want to contact Susie Hale as she is the CCNH Director of Practitioner Education and will be able to help with direction regarding this matter

Rebecca Covey: Holly, cool, thanks

Holly Cowan: Angela – not sure what you mean about making a huge difference once we graduate – please elaborate

THAIDAANETTE STOVALL: Thank you, Holly. Have a nice evening everyone.

Patricia MarshallPearson: THANK YOU HOLLY FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS. GOOD NIGHT TO EVERYONE.

Katherine Liu: Can a student request to switch a Faculty Advisor?

Dana Gall: Jamala where are you from and what are you studying?

Rebecca Covey: Bye Patricia

Jamala Armstrong: Dana, I’m from Baton Rouge, La studying ND

Patricia MarshallPearson: Bye Rebecca :)

Milca Jeune: Alexandra–– I live in south Miami

Angela Haynes: Thanks Holly I was just wondering if the ND from Clayton makes a difference in the “real world” vs. an ND from the school in Portland Oregon that is fully federally accredited?

Holly Cowan: Dana – excellent question – it does seem that persons what a quick fix, etc. However you will find that more people are interested in helping to help their body heal once they understand how the body has it’s own power to heal – I heard from one of our recent scholarship recipients – she stated that people often forget that health is a birth–right!

Alexandra Barroukh: milca what you study

Dana Gall: I study ND too and wonder about having your own practice... you too?

Holly Cowan: From above – I totally believe this and I don’t think that a lot of people realize that most of us are born healthy and our bodies can maintain this health if we treat it right – healthy diet, exercise, rest, etc. Education is the key!

Katherine Liu: Holly– Can a student request to switch a Faculty Advisor?

Jamala Armstrong: Yes Dana, we have the same goals–maybe we should keep in touch

Holly Cowan: Katherine – you can request to change their faculty advisor – if you will e–mail me tomorrow – we can discuss further –hcowan@ccnh.edu

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: Ms cowan I’ll ask again about the projects is research better or one of the other project

Katherine Liu: thank you

Dana Gall: Thank you Holly, I live in Boulder where a lot of people are holistic oriented but in the end they want to see an MD but this will not discourage me

Holly Cowan: Hi Theresa – what do you mean by do a Research or complete a project?

Dana Gall: Jamala I do not have an e–mail with the school but I requested one and I would like to chat with you then

Jamala Armstrong: I didn’t know I could request a school id. I think that would be better as well. How can I get one?

Angela Haynes: Oh well gotta log off now

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: on the first project in NH121 I believe it’s research and subject or interview or another one

Rebecca Covey: Bye, Angela

Holly Cowan: Jamala – you can request that a CCNH e–mail box be set up for you through our webmaster – webmaster@ccnh.edu

Angela Haynes: JUST A REMINDER STUDY CHAT 8PM EST THURSDAY

Dana Gall: jamala when you register they ah Holly just answered it

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: which one is better and do you have a suggestion

Rebecca Covey: I have Zumba on Thurs., maybe I’ll see some other time

Holly Cowan: Theresa – okay now I understand – please note that you can complete which ever project option seems most interesting to you. A lot of my students report that they enjoyed the interview as they were able to "see" and experience what it’s like to visit a natural health practitioner

Patricia Marshall Pearson: ANGELA~WHICH COURSE OF STUDY IS THUSDAY’S 8PM CHAT FOR (ALL PROGRAMS)?

Theresa Delaware–Dooley: can I do one on a Health care practitioner that is also a MD but go more towards natural?

Holly Cowan: Please feel free to stay and chat amongst each other...thank you to everyone for your participation and have a good evening

Dana Gall: Holly, what interview are you talking about? it sounds interesting

Jamala Armstrong: Well Ms. Cowan, I really appreciate your time tonight. I think I have gained much insight. Good night all.

Holly Cowan: Dana – the project for NH121

Rebecca Covey: Holly, thank you for your time:)

Rebecca Covey: Good night everyone

Dana Gall: Holly thank you and good night

Holly Cowan: Good night, thank you too and your welcome. :O]
