Evolution

Our logo began with Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man: The Proportions of the Human Figure. From this classic image we created a new design that uniquely expresses the essence of Clayton College and our teachings. The original drawing’s reflection on the human body’s symmetry and its emphasis on movement and aliveness as evidenced in the figure’s unruly hair seemed like a fitting symbol to convey health and vitality — what we strive to teach in our educational offerings.

We must provide the body with what it needs to maintain its symmetry and proportion: proper diet, pure water, fresh air, sunlight, exercise and rest. These are also the basic tenets of traditional naturopathy as introduced in the late 19th century, and whose roots can be traced as far back as Hippocrates and beyond. They are the principles on which our educational programs are based.

Our re-interpretation of da Vinci’s work combines renderings of the basic elements of health and wellness with the representation of the body’s ideal state of symmetry to create a symbol that is itself a microcosm of Earth and our relationship with her. One symbol unites humankind, both male and female, at rest and motion, surrounded by the sun, the oceans and the nourishment our earth provides. It is an encompassing, holistic symbol that we believe embodies our educational philosophy.
