Practicum Overview

The consulting practicum is designed to challenge the doctoral student to:

  • use his or her knowledge in natural health to provide consultation and education to clients;
  • develop his or her observational and communication skills;
  • gain practical experience as a practicing natural health consultant; and
  • demonstrate progress and improvement in skills.

Students must successfully complete NH 725 Building and Maintaining a Consulting Practice and NH 726 Client Practitioner Relationship prior to conducting the practicum.

Briefly, here is what is required of the student to complete the consulting practicum:

  • Create an interview form for conducting your health intake/assessment.
  • Identify seven clients, which can be friends or family members, as clients.
  • Conduct client sessions with them, making professional recommendations for each client’s presenting condition.
  • Audio or video record certain sessions.
  • Identify a healthcare professional in your community that will observe one of the sessions that you conduct and offer an evaluation of the session.

The version of the consulting practicum that the student must complete is based on the student’s date of enrollment.

For more information, contact a faculty member or the Director of Practitioner Education.
