Practicum FAQs
1. What is the consulting practicum?
The consulting practicum is the experiential program requirement for all practitioner programs. It requires that the student put the empowerment model into practice with real people. These can be actual clients, family members or friends who are willing to assist you in conducting mock sessions.
2. How long does the practicum take?
The practicum will take approximately three to six months to complete.
3. If I am already in practice, then do I still have to complete the practicum?
Yes, however for anyone with a practice, this should be quite easy. You have the experience and the clients accessible for completion of the requirements. Implementation of the educational language as described by the empowerment model is required
4. How can I complete the requirements if I live in a remote area?
The practicum evaluator on faculty can work with you to find a creative avenue for meeting the requirements. Finding family members or friends who are willing to pose as clients to allow you the opportunity to practice your skills can be fun and educational.
5. What is the purpose of completing a consulting practicum if I already have clients?
Throughout the CCNH curriculum, students learn about the CCNH philosophy for the consulting practitioner as described in the Empowerment Model. Completing the practicum allows the faculty to ensure that the student understands the philosophy and has the skills recommended for practicing as natural health or naturopathic consultants. This is also an opportunity for the student to receive feedback from expert faculty practitioners about practice issues.
6. If I have questions about the consulting practicum once I enroll, who is at CCNH to answer them?
Your assigned faculty advisor will direct you to the practicum evaluators on faculty. These faculty members are in-house as well as adjunct and are available to respond to any concerns the student may have.
