Speaker Biographies
Wendy Arthur, M.D.,Wendy Arthur, MD, FAAFP, has practiced family
medicine with a holistic approach for more than 20
years. As a member of the CCNH faculty, she develops
certification and degree program curricula for healthcare professionals.
Wendy travels and teaches about natural health to both the
public and the medical community across the United States. Her
articles have appeared in both peer-reviewed journals and
consumer publications.
Kim Dalzell, PhD, RD, LD, is an expert in holistic and
oncology nutrition, award-winning author, professional
speaker, international nutrition consultant and
CCNH alumna. Kim is Director of Holistic Nutrition Services with
Cancer Treatment Centers of America’s Cancer Resource Center and
has written two books: Challenge Cancer and Win and Give It To Me
Straight.
Daniel Gagnon, Daniel Gagnon, AHG, Medical Herbalist, is a certified
clinical herbalist and President of Herbs, Etc. He is the
executive director of the Botanical Research and
Education Institute and the former chairman of the American Herbal
Products Association. Daniel has been a practicing herbalist for more
than 25 years and is the author of Liquid Drops in Everyday Use and
Breathe Free.
Ann Louise Gittleman, PhD, CNS, is continually
breaking new ground in all aspects of health—from
natural hormone replacement to effective and safe
weight loss. Hailed as one of the most innovative nutritionists in
America today, she is the award-winning author of 20 books on
health and healing with more than 3.5 million copies in print. Her
latest NY Times and USA Today bestsellers are Before the Change and
The Fat Flush Plan. A frequent guest on national television and radio,
Ann Louise is a graduate of CCNH and serves as our Adjunct
Professor for Holistic Nutrition.
Susie Hale, N.D., L.M.T., L.P.C., Susie Hale, ND, LMT, LPC, is director of Student and
Graduate Affairs at CCNH and has been in practice for
more than 20 years, integrating natural health
approaches and mind-body healing modalities. She is a graduate of
Clayton College and shares her practitioner experience by developing
curricula that addresses legal practice issues, communication
skills and the art of the intake assessment. She is a teacher at heart
and embraces the principles of traditional naturopathy, believing that
the goal of the educational process is to empower the student.
Ellen Tart Jensen, Ph.D., Ellen Tart Jensen, PhD, has been involved with natural
healing and nutrition since 1979 and studying
iridology since 1983. She spent four years working
alongside Dr. Bernard Jensen, considered by many to be the Father of
Iridology in the United States. Ellen spent two years in Switzerland,
where she studied natural healing methods at a health clinic. This
diverse background has enabled her to work with many types of
people and their problems.
Denise Lamothe, PsyD, HHD, is a life coach and author
of The Taming of the Chew: A Holistic Guide to
Stopping Compulsive Eating—now in its second
printing. A CCNH alumna, Denise has appeared in national media
publications, TV and radio, and she teaches throughout the US and
Canada. Her second book will address parenting skills that can help
future generations to avoid childhood obesity and other adolescent
eating disorders.
Phyllis D. Light, AHG, LMT, CNC, is director of Herbal
Studies at CCNH. She has more than 25 years experience
as an herbalist, a nutritional consultant and an
energy work practitioner. Phyllis travels and teaches throughout the
country and is considered an expert in traditional herbs and foods
that heal. Phyllis is a free-lance writer whose articles have appeared
in natural health magazines, newspapers and health journals. She
maintains a practice in north Alabama.
Carl Lowe, Carl Lowe, a graduate of Yale, has been a natural health writer for more than 25 years. Currently he is the editor-in-chief of Renew Life Publications in Clearwater, Florida. Carl is the author of a number of books, including Whole Body Healing. Carl has been the food and nutrition editor of Self magazine and worked for Prevention books. He was the senior nutrition editor of Time-Life book series, Health, Fitness and Nutrition, managing editor of Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons Complete Home Medical Guide, and editor of Energy Times.
Rodger Murphree, DC, CNS, has been in private practice
for more than 12 years. He maintains a busy
practice focusing on fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.
Dr. Murphree also consults with physicians and lectures throughout the United States. He is the author of Treating and Beating
Fibromyalgia and CFS.
Linda Page, ND, PhD, has been a leader in natural
health and healing for almost three decades. She is a
prolific author and educator. Her best selling book,
Healthy Healing—A Guide to Self-Healing for Everyone, is now in its
12th edition. Among her other books are Cooking for Healthy Eating,
How to be Your Own Herbal Pharmacist and Detoxification. Linda is a
graduate of CCNH and serves as our Adjunct Professor for Natural
Health and as a member of the CCNH Advisory Board.
Groesbeck Parham, MD, is a gynecologic surgeon,
specializing in cancer surgery at the University of
Alabama in Birmingham. He was the first African-
American to complete a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at
UAB and later studied in London and Khartoum, Sudan, with the
renowned surgeon Abbo Hassan Abbo. Groesbeck’s current interests
are in cancer prevention, nutrition and psychoneuroimmunology.
Darryl Patton, ND, Herbalist, has been involved with
plants for more than 20 years. He is the author of Tommie Bass, Herb Doctor of Shinbone Ridge; America’s Goat Man; and Mountain Medicine: The Herbal Remedies of
Tommie Bass. Darryl is Adjunct Professor of Herbal Studies at CCNH
and maintains a practice in Gadsden, AL.
Jane Patton, AFAA, has worked as a certified fitness
instructor for 16 years. She is certified in Pilates mat
work as well as yoga. Jane is also a personal trainer
and currently instructs classes at Gold’s Gym in Gadsden, AL. She also
teaches Pilates and yoga classes for the community through the First
United Methodist Church in Gadsden.
Caroline Walrad, PhD, CN, has a degree in homeopathic
philosophy. She maintains a homeopathic and
nutritional practice in Scottsdale, AZ, where she also
offers study groups and classes on nutrition and homeopathy.
Caroline travels and speaks on homeopathy, nutrition and holistic
philosophy.
Matthew Wood, AHG, is an internationally renowned
and popular herbalist and homeopath with more than
20 years of experience. He is the author of Seven
Herbs: Plants as Teachers, Vitalism, The Book of Herbal Wisdom and
The Practice of Traditional Western Herbalism. Matthew maintains a
practice at Sunnyfield Herb Farm in Minnesota.
