Clayton College presented another exciting hands-on educational travel event with the 2006 Herbal Mountain Medicine Appalachian Tour. On this learning vacation, participants from around the country joined tour leaders Darryl Patton, CCNH Adjunct Professor for Herbal Studies, and Phyllis Light, CCNH Director of Herbal Studies, to learn about the healing traditions of the southern Appalachian Mountains. The tour was centered around the legendary teachings of the old mountain medicine man, Tommie Bass. The group enjoyed several plant walks in which the focus was the identification and gathering of herbs used in traditional mountain medicine formulas. Hands–on sessions were held on the making of salve, liniments, and tinctures using herbs commonly found growing wild in the south. Hosting the tour were Judy Williams, Director of Marketing; Tara Brown, Communications Manager; and Lou Barbeau, Outreach Coordinator.
