ECHINACEA (Echinacea augustifolia)

Considered a blood purifier and used for blood diseases, blood poisoning and infections. Has shown tissue regeneration and anti-inflammatory properties. Mild, direct cortisone-like effect. Immunostimulant. Enhances movement of white blood cells into areas of infection. Elevates white blood cell counts. Promotes nonspecific T-cell activation. Anti-viral activity. Used for blood builder, infections, boils, swollen lymph glands, swollen prostate. Do not use continually as the body will become adapted to it. Save for sickness as you would any other anti-biotic. Do not take with meals as it is protein binding. If you feel you really need it, take two weeks on then two weeks off. Useful as a mouthwash or gargle for gingivitis and pyorrhoea. Key Uses: common cold, infections, low immune status, prostate problems, cancer.

EPHEDRA (Ephedra species)

Action similar to adrenaline. Increases blood pressure, cardiac output and heart rate. Increases blood flow to heart, brain and muscles. Bronchial dilator. Useful for the treatment of asthma, hay fever, and sinus congestion and infections. The FDA has advised that this herb not be taken by people with heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes or difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate. Should not be used by people taking anti-hypertensives or anti-depressants without consultation with health care providers or physician. Key Uses: asthma, hay fever, allergies, sinus infections and congestion, common cold, weight loss aid.

EVENING PRIMROSE (Oenothera biennis)

Contains linoleic acid and gamma linolenic acid, the Essential Fatty Acids. Useful in inflammatory conditions, arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and autoimmune disorders. Nourishes the ovaries. Useful for PMS, fibrocystic disease, and ovarian disorders. Used in Europe to treat Multiple Sclerosis. Contains prostaglandins. Relieves pain of angina. Effective in lowering cholesterol. Inhibits formation of clots. Aids in lowering blood pressure. Key Uses: nervous coughs, high blood pressure, nerves, whooping cough, menopause, pre-menopause, arthritis, auto-immune disorders, infertility.

EYEBRIGHT (Euphrasia officinalis)

Used to treat conjunctivitis, cataracts, and other eye problems. Also useful for treatment of sinuses. Stimulates liver. Anti-inflammatory. Antiseptic. Strengthens eye. Useful for sinus infections. Key Uses: blood cleanser, cataracts, colds, strengthens eye, liver stimulant.
