Hearty Teas: Love Yourself
This is an excellent tea for relaxing and nourishing the heart and cardiovascular system. Hawthorn and ginkgo provide cardio-tonic flavonoids, and motherwort brings cardio-active glycosides to the blend. The violet leaf and flower are added for their nourishing vitamin and mineral content and for their, beautiful heart-shaped leaves. Violets have, since ancient times, been affectionately known as "heart's ease."
3 parts hawthorn and flowers
2 parts hawthorn berries
2 parts ginkgo leaves
2 parts motherwort leaves
2 parts oatstraw
2 parts violet leaves and flowers
1 part crampbark
1 part linden blossoms
Combine all herbs in a pot, and cover with boiling water. Stir well, cover, and steep 15 to 20 minutes.
Hawthorn is considered to be a great herb for heart and circulation support, and hyssop may help regulate blood pressure.
1 teaspoon hawthorn berries, crushed - or 1 teaspoon hawthorn leaves/flowers
1 teaspoon dried borage leaves
1 teaspoon rose petals
Mix ingredients. Infuse 1 teaspoon mixture in 1 cup boiling water. Steep 5 to 10 minutes, or to taste.
Aching Heart Tea

Who hasn't nursed a broken heart at least once? This tea combines hawthorn to improve blood supply to the heart, violet leaves, traditionally used as a cough expectorant; lemon balm, extolled by the British herbalist John Evelyn as “powerfully chasing away melancholy”; and other herbs to help ease depression, lift fatigue, and calm anxiety. Brigitte says it's perfect for sipping in the bathtub during a good, long cry.
To blend 36 servings
1/4 cup hawthorn (mixed leaf, flower and berry)
1/4 cup violet leaves
1/4 cup lemon balm leaves
1/4 cup oatstraw
1/8 cup motherwort
Combine herbs in a glass container. Store away from light up to a year.
To brew 1 cup
1 1/2 teaspoons blend
1 cup water
Add blend to just-boiled water in a french coffee press, teapot, or covered mug. Steep for 15 minutes; strain if needed.
