As spring begins many of us will find ourselves traveling more. We may be attending conferences or heading for our favorite vacation spots. To ensure that we enjoy our get-a-ways, it is important to remain healthy while we travel. The following herbal tea recipes may help boost our immune systems, ward off motion sickness, and help relieve other common issues we may experience when we are away from home.
No one wants to spend their vacation not feeling well. This tea may be helpful before and during travel times. The blend helps the body resist infection and boost immunity so we can remain healthy on the road.
2 parts Echinacea 2 parts lemongrass 2 parts peppermint 1 part elder berry 1 part elder flower 1 part rose hip 1/2 part green tea leaf
Combine above herbs and add one heaping teaspoon of the blend to one cup of boiling water. Steep for 10-20 minutes.

If travel schedules are sounding more worrisome than fun, this may be the perfect tea to help us calm down and enjoy the ride. Not only can it help relax us before a trip, it may also be helpful for the insomnia that many experience away from their own beds.
1 part chamomile flowers 1 part lemon verbena leaves 1 part oatstraw 1 part passiflora leaves 1 part skullcap leaves 1-2 dropperfuls of valerian/wild poppy tincture
Combine herbs and cover with boiling water. Steep for 15-20 minutes. Tincture may be added to the last few sips of the tea.
This traditional Chinese recipe for colds and flu is also useful for nausea and motion sickness. Motion sickness is a common concern for many when traveling either by plane, boat, bus, train, or car. This blend should be helpful to calm the stomach during those bumpy rides.
6-8 slices of fresh ginger 6-8 scallions, white part only 2-3 teaspoons of honey or maple syrup 1/4 teaspoon sea salt 2 cups of mineral water
Add ginger slices and scallions to pot of water. Add the honey or maple syrup and sea salt. Boil, then lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain.
Constipation is a problem for many people when schedules are altered by being away from home. This herbal blend can help provide relief from this common issue.
4 parts fennel seed 2 parts psyllium seed 2 parts spearmint 1 part licorice root 1 part marsh mallow root 1/2 part cinnamon 1/4 part orange peel A pinch of stevia
The herbs should be combined and stored in an airtight container. Simmer one cup of water and 1 tablespoon of herb mixture for 20 minutes. Strain and cool. 1/8 to 1/2 cup of tea with meals as needed may be helpful.
When traveling, the following bath blend is the perfect way to relax. The herbs can be mixed and tied inside a muslin cloth and hung onto the nozzle of the bathtub or under the shower head.
2 parts chamomile 2 parts lavender 2 parts roses 1 part comfrey leaf
Once muslin container is hung on bathtub nozzle, run hot water through the bag and into the tub. This makes a strong herbal infusion. Before entering the tub, add enough cold water to bring the water to a comfortable temperature.
