Celebrating the Month of May with Cayenne Teas

Cayenne can be infused for making a hot, spicy tea to stimulate the appetite and can help relieve stomach cramps and pains. Try stirring 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne into five ounces of boiling water and let cool or try one of these following zesty teas for a soothing treat. Source

Hot ‘N’ Spicy Ache Relief Brew

This is a stimulating tea that addresses the aches and pains of colds and flu.

1 Tablespoon dried peppermint leaves
1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/8 teaspoon cayenne powder
2 teaspoons dried sage leaves

Pour one cup boiling water over herbs and let steep five minutes. Sweeten with honey or ginger syrup.

Hot Sweats Tea

This herbal diaphoretic formula is a tasty, spicy tea to help stimulate sweating.

1 part elder flowers
1 part ginger root, freshly grated
1 part peppermint leaves
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Juice of one lemon
1–2 Tablespoons honey

Combine all herbs in a pot, and cover with boiling water. Stir well. Cover, and steep 15 to 20 minutes. Add lemon and honey.

Cold Cure

This is an excellent tea when you’ve got a cold.

1 teaspoon dried winter-green leaves
1 teaspoon echinacea root, ground
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 pinch cayenne

Mix herbs. Infuse 1 teaspoon mixture in 1 cup boiling water. Steep 5 to 10 minutes.

White Willow Painkiller

This is a good anti-inflammatory or painkilling tea.

1 teaspoon white willow bark
1 teaspoon alfalfa leaves
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Decoct bark by simmering in 1 1/2 pints water in a covered container for 30 minutes. Remove from heat, add other herbs, and let steep 10 minutes more.
