Thyme

Easy Breathing Teas

During the summer months, as the cities heat up, ozone alerts are commonly issued. It is often recommended for those with respiratory problems to stay indoors. When the ozone alerts become elevated, even the healthiest person may struggle for a good, deep breath. The following tea recipes are helpful for respiratory issues such as bronchitis and asthma.

Asthma Relief Tea

The following herbs assist in regaining the ability to breathe deep.

2 parts green tea leaves
1 part elderberry
1 part fennel seed
1/2 part fenugreek seed
1/2 part licorice root

Combine herbs. Bring water to a boil. Add a heaping teaspoon of herb mixture per cup of water, cover and steep for ten to twenty minutes.

Thyme Tea

Thyme is traditionally used for respiratory issues and is helpful for bronchitis and asthma.

1 1/2 teaspoons of thyme
1 cup boiling water

Steep 10 minutes.

Lung Health Tea

The following herbs help to strengthen, tonify, and increase the capacity of the lungs.

2 parts elder flower
2 parts hyssop leaves
2 parts green tea leaves
2 parts mullein leaves
2 parts peppermint
1 part fennel seed
1 part ginger root
1 part licorice root
1 part rose hip
1/2 part thyme

Combine herbs. Bring water to a boil. Add a heaping teaspoon of herb mixture per cup of water, cover and steep for ten to twenty minutes.

Thyme Steam for Asthma

Add 1 Tablespoon of thyme to 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Pour into basin. The head and basin may be covered with a towel to inhale the steam for relief from asthma complaints.
