Overcoming Depression with Rosemary Gladstar

Fighting seasonal depression during the winter months can become exhaustive. Depression seems to have many factors including lack of sleep, lack of nutrients, lack of light, and lack of love. Here are a few herbal remedies that may help get you back on track and feeling wonderful.

Chamomile Tisane

4 parts chamomile blossoms
3 parts rose hips
2 parts lemon balm
1 part borage flowers & leaves

Combine the herbs; prepare as an infusion by boiling 1 quart of water per ounce of herb (or 1 cup of water to 1 tablespoon of herb). Let steep for 30 to 60 minutes. The more herb you use and the longer you let it steep, the stronger the brew. Drink as much and as often as needed.

California Poppy Blend

1 part California poppy flowers and seeds
1 part chamomile
1 part oats, milky green tops
1/2 part marsh mallow root

Combine the herbs, prepare as an infusion by boiling 1 quart of water per ounce of herb (or 1 cup of water to 1 tablespoon of herb). Let steep for 30 to 60 minutes. This is a very gentle formula, so drink as much and as often as needed.

Nerve Formula for Depression

2 parts chamomile
1 part borage flowers & leaves
1 part lemon balm
1/2 part lavendar flowers
1/2 part roses

Mix the herbs. Make an infusion by boiling 1 quart of water per ounce of herb (or 1 cup of water to 1 tablespoon of herb). Let steep for 30 to 60 minutes. Drink 1 cup three times a day.

Create love in your life, whether of people, of books, or even of gardening, hiking, or sailing. It is essential to connect with nature during times of great depression. Find every reason you can to love yourself and everyone else. Follow your heart; it is the pathway to the soul.

Build and Strengthen the Nervous System

To break out of depression, you must strengthen the nervous system so that it can serve as the marvelous receptor and distributor of energy that it is meant to be. Concentrate on herbs that are indicated for depression and sadness, such as lavendar, lemon balm, oats, and St. John’s Wort.
