Cardamom

Warm Cardamom Blends

Cardamom is an ancient spice that originated in India. It is one of the most expensive spices. As it is a relative to ginger, cardamom is often used as a digestive aid. It is also helpful to the respiratory system as well as to the kidneys.

Cardamom Tea

Cardamom has a strong, unique taste, with intensely aromatic fragrance, and it is frequently used in cuisine and tea blends in the Asian countries.

4 cardamom pods
4 black peppercorns
4 cloves
1 cinnamon stick
4 slices fresh ginger
2 Tablespoons honey, stevia, or sugar to taste
Milk (optional, to taste)

Add first five ingredients to 2 1/2 cups of water. Heat, but do not boil, for half an hour and then strain. Add honey, stevia, and/or milk to taste.

Cardamom Green Tea

2 teaspoons green tea
6 green cardamom pods
Sugar, stevia, or honey, to taste

Add the tea and cardamom to teapot and fill with boiling water. Steep for one to two minutes. Add sugar, stevia, or honey to taste.

Fever Reducing Cardamom Tea

Cardamom is recognized by its bold green pods and hard brownish-black seeds. Cardamom has a grapefruit-like flavor. It also has a menthol undertone and is said to be similar to ginger. Here is another wonderful brew.

1 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Seeds from one large cardamom pod

Combine above ingredients. Infuse in two cups of boiling water for ten minutes.

Indian Lassi Bath Milk

1 cup of plain yogurt
1 teaspoon powdered cardamom
1/2 teaspoon powdered nutmeg

Mix all ingredients and add into a warm bath for a 20-30 minute soak.
