Debra BaginskiGraduate Spotlight

On the One Hand
An Alumni Interview with Debra Baginski, Bachelor of Science in Natural Health

What has been your educational experience, prior to Clayton College?

I attended Mount Saint Mary’s College for pre-med studies. Through British Institute of Homeopathy, I earned additional D.I. Hom and D.Vet Hom credentials.

How did you decide to continue your studies through CCNH, and how has it worked for you?

I looked at the program offerings and requirements for graduation, and I looked at your student support system. All in all, I was very impressed. I like the flexibility of self-paced studies. I’ve had great support from my advisor and staff, and I’m now enrolled as an N.D. student.

CCNH is always promoting the greater good to the alumni, and continuing to reach for additional certifications and accreditations that benefit both their students and purpose.

Have your studies involved a career change, job enhancement, and/or personal healing?

With my companies, Gooseberry Natural Feed, LLC and Gooseberry Healing Center, Inc., I have created a complete holistic line of feed, vitamins, supplements and oils for animals. I have also written training books on homeopathy, nutrition 101, acupressure 101, and equine massage.

With my own health, I have successfully addressed two significant challenges, Fibromyalgia and Lyme’s disease. CCNH is preparing me to serve my clients with a vast and growing amount of knowledge, and I enjoy helping others step through the learning process and improve their health.

What would you like to convey about your applications of mind/body/spirit health?

I want to help clients understand that issues affecting the mind also affect the body, and issues that affect the mind and body also affect the spirit. I believe that prayer is a very important part of healing. In the interest of their own wellbeing, I actively encourage people to pray and forgive. When clients realize that holding onto old wounds and disappointments is only “maintaining their pain,” they begin to see that only they, themselves, have the power to step out of their bondage and finally get unstuck. As they take these fragile first steps and begin to get their joy back, their health begins to improve. Seeing and feeling this glimmer of light, then they want to take bigger, stronger steps — the necessary steps toward a great, healthy life.

Having been through many life events that would devastate most people, I believe that from those darkest shadows and valleys I will be able to help, teach and understand the individual who needs care on the deepest level. Our negative experiences, no matter how awful they may seem at the time, can and will come around to be a blessing if we’ll just hold on long enough. Sometimes it may take a long time, but hope and faith will always win.

Who is your favorite author within the field of natural health, and/or what is one of your favorite motivational quotes?

God is my favorite author. He has given us a book full of healing notes called the Bible. Jeremiah 33:3 is one that I especially like to share: “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and wondrous things you do not know.”

Appalachian herbalist Tommie Bass is my second favorite author, because he had a true servant’s heart and really knew his herbs, loved people and loved God with all his heart.
