How did you become interested in natural health and holistic nutrition?
My mother knew all about natural remedies, and she introduced me to many “flavors” of international folk wisdom during the years that we lived in Switzerland, Canada and various parts of the U.S. As a child who suffered from asthma and many food allergies, I could often redirect my own habits and choices because I could sense the environment’s subtle energies. I felt drawn to the vibrant life force and the vast, innate intelligence of plants and animals.
Later, as a performance artist who toured with Ice Capades© and worked for years with Donny and Marie Osmond, I was fascinated by so many diverse cultural approaches to health.
How did you choose CCNH for your studies?
Raising two children, it was amazing to me how vastly different they were! One is highly intuitive and a bit mystical, therefore not as naturally “grounded” as her sibling. So, while she can manifest unusual solutions at lightning speed because she can see so many alternative possibilities, her energies wax and wane dramatically.
Her older brother is a methodical multi-tasker with remarkable problem-solving skills. In their Mom’s humble opinion, both are stellar in their capabilities, but their personalities and their views of doing things couldn’t be more different.
As someone with a lifelong interest in holistic nutrition, I felt that the best legacy I could offer this next generation was a knowledge-based foundation in natural health that they could pass along within their own families.
How has the distance learning approach worked for you?
With Clayton College, my Type-A tendencies have met their match! As the author of a natural health workbook, Vibrant Living: Creating Radiant Health and Longevity, I am a voracious reader and researcher who teaches and consults from offices in Manhattan and Los Angeles. I’m often sought as an expert resource within various health media, and so versatility is essential.
My books go everywhere I go, and if my eyes pop open at 2 a.m., it’s lesson time! Completing my B.S. and M.S. degrees has been so rewarding that I am now busily working through CCNH doctoral studies in holistic nutrition.
In the arena of life wisdom, what is your favorite quotation?
I like to offer clients “Sally-isms.” Here’s one: Being perfect is boring! Don’t swear off every temptation all the time, but always have a plan for rebalancing.
Here’s another Sally-ism, to help clients relate to what the body needs and why: Think of calcium as the backbone, literally and figuratively, as it helps to keep us grounded emotionally as well as physically strong. B Vitamins (B complex) is the electrical wiring, and Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) form the insulation.
In closing, what would you like to leave with our readers?
Bringing good kids into the world is an ever-loving kindness. Anybody with children knows what a magnificent gift and an arduous task this can be! Parenting is of paramount importance, for the sustainability of our planet. Bring in a generation that knows about balance; young people who value education, who are vibrantly healthy, and who care enough to passionately perpetuate right action.
