Student Spotlight
Ray Fisch, N.D. Candidate
Ray Fisch weighs the same amount today as he did 60 years ago, and still writes poetry and song lyrics. He says he has been working harder these last two years in Florida than he ever did throughout a career in Southern California and previously in his native New York.
For one thing, he has already written 30 newspaper columns on natural health since relocating to Lake Placid, FL. He teaches a community college course called “It’s Never Too Late to Get Healthy,” and another campus recently added this same class. He is a man on a mission, to help people to help themselves.
His partner of 10 years, Claire Farr, founded and operated Klaire Laboratories near San Diego for almost 35 years. Fisch says she is known the as “The Grand Dame” of the vitamin industry, and she worked with two world-renowned gurus of Vitamin C: the late Linus Pauling, Ph.D., and the late Emanuel Cheraskin, M.D. and D.M.D. Cheraskin holds a dear place in our hearts as well; he was Clayton College’s founding director of naturopathic research.
Ray Fisch has worked or studied with holistic health visionaries such as Earl Mindel, Abram Hoffer, Arnold Fox, the late John Lee and a noted homeopath who taught British royalty, Trevor Cook. His life’s work continues to be teaching others about the awesome healing power of nature and he says he dreams of “sharing an office with a medical doctor who understands holistic integrative medicine.”
His home-based business is called Natural Wellness and, following a recent newspaper column on natural approaches to cholesterol management, he has fielded more than 60 phone calls and e-mails within only three days!
One might wonder how he finds time to play blues piano and sing tenor in choirs, but we need not wonder if Fisch has his priorities straight. He and Claire moved from one coast to the other in order to be closer to family. He teaches people that wellness begins with a healthy attitude.
Healthy nutrition and proper exercise are the other components, according to this life-long athlete.
In teaching people of all ages on how to live healthier, Fisch understands that it is natural for people to stumble when given confusing health news. “I want to remind people of God’s constant love and comforting presence within us. We each have the God-given power to let our faith help lift us back up. It can be so psychologically damaging for a person to hear from a doctor that they will live only a few months with a specific disease, and I remind people that only God knows how much time any of us has.
“I tell students that even if things seem hopeless, we can become empowered by learning all we can about a threatening health condition and by believing that there is always, always something else that we can do to help overcome the problem. We can look for other answers and we can pray, believe and trust God’s perfect timing.
“We can deeply believe in our own inner strength and remind ourselves that life is truly filled with joy and happiness – whether one’s life is 40 years or 100-plus years.”
Ray Fisch certainly seems to have mastered the life lessons he shares with others. His teaching philosophy is “learn to take charge of the only mind and body you’ll ever have, and always love everyone.”
