Elise A. Fischer, N.D. Candidate
“It is time. This is the path. Get started.”

In her CCNH enrollment essay, Elise Fischer tells about her dream job of seven years, as Safety/Wellness/Fleet Manager for a Southern California division of a Fortune 500 telecommunications enterprise. She describes an innovative employer who listened to her idea for an on-site Wellness Center that lets employees proactively address the various layers of optimal health.

Reclassifying safety as a wellness issue, involving health promotion as a natural first step leading to injury prevention, Elise has created a healing oasis for a division with more than 750 employees.

“It started as a way to cast a warm, healing shawl around all of our associates,” she says, “rather than falling prey to the temptation of focusing only on the key department that, historically, sustained the most injuries. Focusing on wellness is a way to make safety relevant to our associates. It demonstrates that Cox Cable cares about all aspects of our employees’ well-being. Our associates enjoy access to a gym, exercise classes, in-service teachings, and the availability of various health experts.”

This growing and evolving Wellness Center includes an on-site chiropractor, massage therapist, certified athletic trainer and certified nutritionist. Its “Wellness Store and Library” is part of their nutritionist’s educational outreach, offering a variety of books and tapes, plus supervised access to discounted supplements such as natural progesterone drops, energy bars and healthy shakes.

Ongoing holistic health fairs bring a wave of new interest from employees who have seen their colleagues lose weight, improve cardiovascular function, lower their cholesterol and stress levels, and address the challenges of peri-menopause.

Elise’s own interest in natural health spans more than 20 years, during which time she has studied nutrition, herbs, fitness, meditation, homeopathy, kinesiology, aromatherapy and flower essences. “I’ve always been drawn to help people improve their health through better nutrition. Up until now I’ve always served in the role of a facilitator.” During a soul-searching trip to France this year, her inner guides presented a life-changing message. “Suddenly I understood so clearly that I’ve been preparing for a new path and now is the time. Listening to inner wisdom is part of my own healing, by which I can help others on this healing path.”

A fortuitous conversation and a coincidence led Elise to Clayton College. Trusting that her life’s highest work would continue to evolve, this single Mom systematically began reprioritizing and rearranging her life to make time for reading, reflecting, studying and incorporating her new knowledge. She is proud to be raising a holistically inclined teenage daughter who enjoys salads, fruit smoothies, juicing and raw vegetable soups most of the time, along with those occasional treats…naturally! “She is open to a fresh food diet with plenty of variety. We like to keep trying new things whenever I discover new research.”

Elise’s vision is to make it easier for people to choose healthier lifestyle habits that are self-sustaining. At home and at work her experiential approach to teaching is upbeat, encouraging, knowledgeable, challenging and available – all of the same things we strive for daily, at Clayton College of Natural Health!
