Brian Jones, candidate for Doctor of Naturopathy

When Brian Jones sends you a scenic postcard, it might portray a pristine golf course in Toronto or a rhinoceros in the wild. Both messages come from a company he founded, Natural Gardens and Lawns, Inc., and both depict different applications of the same process: organic, non-toxic land care.

With more than 25 years’ experience in the green industry, Jones counts himself lucky that the first few years didn’t kill him. During college he worked as a landscaper, breathing in pesticides and herbicides daily, turning tons of toxic soil, folding in tons of chemical fertilizer, and soaking it all with chlorinated tap water.

He formed his own landscaping company in 1981 and within just three years, converted all its products to all natural and non-toxic. This came after his own cleansing and detoxifying healing crisis.

Jones remembers going to a chiropractor, who recommended a homeopath and an herbalist. Working with a naturopath, Jones gently rebalanced his health by cleansing his liver, lymph, colon and connective tissue during the next several years. As his body became decongested he lost weight by flushing away toxins being held in his fat tissue.

He also attributes his body’s rigorous recovery to having taken vitamin and mineral supplements continuously since the 1970s. “There’s no question that the supplements helped neutralize free radicals and eliminate contaminates.”

As within, so without.

His company helps convert municipalities in the U.S. and Canada that are, increasingly, banning the use of agricultural pathogens and seeking healthier alternatives.

Jones’ Safe Turf © division helps re-cover athletic fields, parks, school systems and planned communities: removing chemical turf and, via re-seeding and top-dressing, replacing the fake flora and fauna with all natural ground coverings. This typically includes a maintenance program for non-toxic weed, crabgrass and insect deterrence.

His Growing Solutions © products for plant and soil health include various compost tea systems that enhance microbial diversity to combat plant pathogens, suppress disease and bolster plants’ tolerance to environmental stress by improving their nutrient cycling for optimum vitality.

His compost tea catalysts include rock mineral powders and trace elements, plus biologically active seaweed powder for robust agricultural growth.

Of course Jones’ company includes a “green and growing” teaching division. SunFire Institute offers programs to educate clients in integrated organic management. More than mere product support, this learning component helps big corporations and little neighborhoods come together to better protect nature and thus protect ourselves.

“I have too many young friends who are developing cancer in their 40s, no doubt from our toxic environment. As a natural health consultant I want people to understand the interconnection of humanity’s health with that of our environment.

“I think Clayton College sees the importance of teaching our children’s children’s children how to heal the earth and heal ourselves. There is a very bright light, a strong energy, that emanates from CCNH and from your teachings and permeates the world.”

Naturally, his N.D. studies include a concentration in herbology!
