Perhaps you’ve wondered…Just how does a new student begin his or her Clayton College admissions process? Here are excerpts from the enrollment essay submitted by Beatrice Borden of Maine.
…Since graduating from college in 1968, I have owned daycare centers for 30 years, and established a consulting business which developed daycare centers and child development programs. I also published Barter magazine in the early 80’s, and have co-owned a children’s consignment shop.
…In my mid-40s I completed two years’ training with The Massachusetts Midwife Alliance. I also apprenticed for two years and received additional training in Jamaica and Texas. My experience as a homebirth midwife centered on alternative approaches such as sharing information on prenatal and postnatal herbs, homeopathy, and holistic nutrition.
…In 1999 I was ordained as a priest in the Order of Christ/Sophia, where I served full time until 2007. As President of the Board for many years, I started a spiritual center in Dallas. My goal is to live a holistic lifestyle: balancing mind, body and spirit in service to others.
…Because I feel that we come to earth to serve and to personally grow, I now choose CCNH to help prepare me for my next great adventure: which I envision as helping people transform their health through good nutritional practices. I want to help bring consciousness to this neglected area. When we do not nourish our bodies, we are at a great disadvantage. In fact, mystical teachings indicate that the Soul leaves when the body is no longer fit. We live in a sick nation where mind, body and spirit are fed with trash, or just plain neglected. I have become passionate about good sustenance because of how holistic nutrition has improved my life and the lives of so many others around me.
…Part of what attracted me to your program is realizing that I can work independently and move at my own pace. At age 61, I am blessed with the freedom to choose education as my next priority and to focus deeply on this new reality. Free to concentrate on learning and laying a foundation as a nutrition counselor and teacher, I look forward to being a part of CCNH and sharing this knowledge with others.
