Nayyan Chandler, candidate for B.S. in Holistic
Nutrition
“Natural Health Just Makes Sense”
Nayyan Chandler of Miami, FL and her father, Reed Chandler, N.D., of Temuco, Chile, share a belief in natural health that bridges the distance of international borders. As reverent seekers of mind, body, and spirit harmony, they create wellness at home and help others harness the power of hope as a remedy for fear. Their own family personifies the word “miraculous” times three: with Nicolas, Arianna and Matias.
Raised as “nature kids” in a small town near the Andes Mountains with an abundance of fresh air and sunshine, Nayyan and her siblings knew the simple joys of fragrant apple trees and juicy, fresh–picked black cherries. Learning about the indigenous Mapuche culture, admiring the simplicity of natural remedies and the health that comes from living in gratitude, she is especially thankful to have observed a diversity of lifestyles, within their town and countryside.
Resonating with the teachings of her parents’ Baha’i faith, Nayyan grew up believing that our highest human potential comes from respecting the dignity of all people and all nations. Respect for our connection with nature eventually led Nayyan to a vegetarian lifestyle — another “natural evolution” since her parents owned and managed health food stores, creating Nayyan’s first on–the–job experiences with natural healing.
Throughout her life, Nayyan observed her father’s committed interest in natural health approaches; Reed introduced family members to natural nutrition, fasting, herbalism, hydrotherapy, reflexology, and more. Through lifelong learning, including doctoral studies with CCNH, Reed became a holistic healer and has built an international naturopathy practice. Nayyan’s mother, Ana Maria, teaches individuals and companies about the body–balancing nourishment of alkalized water.
When Nayyan experienced a baffling, disheartening four years of being unable to conceive, it was natural healing modalities that restored and strengthened her homeostatic balance of body, mind, and spirit health. From thousands of miles away, her favorite naturopath guided his daughter’s regimen of nutrition, herbal and vitamin supplements, “inner work and outer work — all of which worked,” she adds exuberantly.
Their Florida household continues to benefit from Nayyan’s studies in holistic nutrition. “My husband and I use herbs in teas and creams, and our kids prefer homeopathic approaches. With intentional food choices and meal preparation, with prayer and meditation, all these things nurture souls as well as the physical body. Soothing music, deep breathing, proper rest, life’s simple gifts are powerful healers.
“As a stay–at–home mother of three miracles, I hope to encourage other moms to consider distance learning as an empowering way to change one’s own life and also be of service to so many others. I feel enriched by these courses and confident that I am receiving a complete and relevant education. After earning my bachelor’s degree, I will continue with graduate studies. Natural health just makes sense; it can bring about true healing.”
