Mary A. Conrad, Candidate for Ph.D. in Natural Health

Perhaps you’ve wondered… Just how does a new student begin his or her Clayton College admissions process? Here are excerpts from the enrollment essay submitted by Mary A. Conrad of North Dakota, a retired language and linguistics teacher who is excitedly preparing to embark on her second career.

“Establishing a ‘Main Street’ Presence for Natural Health”

…In late 2006 I initiated in my rural hometown a grassroots effort for economic renewal and personal well-being. As a result, our town received an 18-month educational grant, which continues through mid-2008. Serving as our local Horizons coordinator, for my part I want to role-model an entrepreneurial spirit by helping to establish a “Main Street” presence for natural healthcare consulting and coaching.

…My plan to promote holistic health on the prairie holds promise not only because of its long-term health benefits (naturally!) but also as a continuing education option. Natural health awareness arrived late in the Heartland, after being embraced on the West and East Coasts since the 1960s and 1970s. As one who moved away for many decades and then moved back four years ago, my own commitment to naturally healthy living makes me eager to share the goodness of complementary alternatives with such a nature-loving general population (as ours).
