Patricia McDaniel, Candidate for M.S. in Holistic Nutrition
Perhaps you’ve wondered… Just how does a new student begin his or her Clayton College admissions process? Here are excerpts from the enrollment essay submitted by Patricia McDaniel of Maryland.
Embracing Self-Responsibility for Wellness
“My vision for holistic nutrition and wellness is for minority communities — particularly the deaf and hearing communities of African-Americans — to embrace self-responsibility, together, for wellness without limits and without blaming history or heredity.
“There are many individuals with deafness who have not deeply investigated their family’s health history; thus, they lack a baseline for beginning to understand the blessings of self-care and holistic wellness.
“I desire to see communication barriers removed, so that members of the deaf community may just as easily walk into a yoga class or other learning program as a hearing person without others fussing and passing the buck as to who should be responsible for paying for interpreting services.”
