Linda L. Meachum, Candidate for Herbal Studies Certificate

Linda Meachum

Perhaps you’ve wondered… Just how does a new student begin his or her Clayton College admissions process? Here are excerpts from the enrollment essay submitted by Linda Meachum of Nevada.

“Studying Physics Taught Me the Power of Nature”

…Everyone has different motives when choosing a profession. Most healthcare workers are driven by an opportunity to make a difference and be a part of healing. I have been very fortunate to help people as a radiation oncology therapist, and even more fortunate in recent years to become a patient educator.

…I became interested in herbalism when my father was diagnosed in 1986, at age 64, with prostate cancer. Five years later my sister, at age 38, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Neither had a promising prognosis, allopathically, but our herbal discoveries extended my father’s quality and quantity of life for a good 18 years. My sister is now 55. Naturally, we believe that complementary approaches are powerful adjunct therapies.

…I have taken campus-based herbology classes in California and Nevada, and CCNH came highly recommended by a classmate. The Clayton curriculum attracts me because of the rigorous science-based courses, and in looking at the person as a whole, interconnected being-not as a body part to be treated in isolation. I will always be grateful for the opportunities to study with physicians and physicists who shaped my medical career, but my path is leading me in a more holistic direction. I look forward to learning all I can to help those who seek different approaches.
