Rebecca Montrone, candidate for M.S. in Holistic Nutrition
“Blending Wondrous Roots”

In the same neighborhood with Orchard Drive and Apple Way, the original Cranberry House (circa 1880) was built alongside Londonderry, NH’s first maple sugar production facility. Still imbuing the sweetness of nature and now known as The Gilcreast House, its genteel charm is still alive and well — and still the home of natural delights for all of the senses!

Follow your nose to the welcoming scents of WellSpring Natural Health & Beauty, and there you’ll find CCNH graduate student Rebecca Montrone. With two partners in their holistic health boutique, WSNH&B encompasses Wondrous Roots, Inc., which was founded by Becky; Hands in Harmony therapeutic massage; and Lithia Skincare.

Becky discovered the healing powers of herbs at a New England compounding shop owned by her father. Fascinated since childhood by the mortar and pestle tradition of blending the energies of earth’s own homegrown medicines, Becky remembers as a teen using natural body–balancers such as acidophilus, lecithin, serotonin and melatonin.

As a natural antidote to inheriting the frail physical and emotional health of others in her family, intuitively Becky has always been drawn to nurture the life force with activity, intentional nutrition, herbs and other supplements. Her lifelong passion is in teaching others.

While raising and home–schooling her daughter during the late 1980s and throughout the ’90s, Becky enjoyed the freedom to work independently as a medical transcriptionist, “learning innumerable lessons about health and the lack of health, without leaving home.”

Tuning into the details of thousands of case histories and all manner of medical maladies gave the young mother daily lessons in how to discover clues and detect patterns; documenting the lengthy reports sealed into memory some of the best and the worst examples of conventional Western medical approaches.

As a lifelong learner who loves to read, Becky recalls becoming intrigued by the idea of independent studies with CCNH. Alongside raising a vibrantly healthy daughter who is now a N.Y. ballet dancer and creating her own business, Becky has been so pleased with her undergraduate education in holistic nutrition and herbology that she’s now pursuing her masters degree, and plans to continue with Ph.D. studies.

Learning and teaching others how to craft traditional herbal remedies and how to create personalized nutrition / supplements and lifestyle programs, Becky adds that many of her clients are looking for alternative approaches for weight management and hormone rebalancing.

Physicians are often amazed to learn that her own robust health is 100% natural, “i.e., drugless,” built entirely with nutrition, stress management, supplements and other intentional lifestyle choices. “Conventional healthcare is a challenging environment for those who want to be creative,” she concludes. “Typically the idea of offering non–invasive options for ADHD, diabetes, fibromyalgia and CFS just isn’t encouraged or supported. One doctor acknowledged that ‘so many administrative constraints are self–limiting. You’re making a difference and I’m envious,’ he admitted.”
