Academics’ News and Notes
The big news in CCNH’s Academics Department for spring 2003 is our four new faculty members. Two faculty members are CCNH graduates, bringing our total of employed graduates to four! Read on to get to know each a bit more.
Christine Picior, N.D. (pronounced “peach or”) joined CCNH on February 26. She completed her B.S. in Natural Health in 2000 and N.D. in 2001. She is relocating from Marietta, GA, where she was President and co-founder of the World Community Center of Atlanta, Inc., a non-profit organization offering alternative and complementary healing to all people regardless of financial status. Christine is a massage therapist and hypnotherapist.
Terri Schroedermeier, Ph.D. is a 2000 CCNH Holistic Nutrition graduate. Prior to obtaining her Ph.D., Terri’s educational background included degrees in Psychology and Engineering (concentrating in Rehabilitation and Bioengineering), certification as a Massage Therapist, and additional training in Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy. Terri feels that interconnectivity is a recurring theme in her life: “I am always fascinated with how this manifests. I have seen it in coursework with my varied studies, professionally in diverse careers, and personally as I meet new friends. It still surprises me at times!” Terri reports that she is already impressed with many of the students she has met and the stories that they have shared. In her own words, “I feel blessed to be part of the CCNH faculty. I look forward to meeting more of you, and I hope to have the chance to do this at the conference in May. After all, it’s only natural!”
Angela L. Vail, D.C. is originally from northeastern Ohio, and grew up in the country surrounded by farmland and dairy cattle. She was introduced to natural health care at age 18 by seeing a chiropractor, and after spending the summer as a chiropractic assistant she changed her major from chemical engineering and headed off to Life Chiropractic College (now Life University) to become a chiropractor herself, graduating in 1985. She and her husband Ben (also a chiropractor) practice natural health care as a way of life, using nutritional supplements, homeopathic remedies, applied kinesiology, reflexology, reiki, ayurvedic concepts, and other natural methods for themselves and their son, Ben. Educating the public and promoting natural health as primary care is something Angela feels driven to promote in future generations, and becoming a part of CCNH helps her do this.
Misty Waites, M.A. joined our staff in May, 2002 and is CCNH’s Research and Writing Advisor. She received her Bachelor’s degree in English from Jacksonville State University and her Master’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she also teaches freshman composition. Her spare time is filled with laughter, literature, and the love of her mutt Griffin and her crazy cat S-Kitty.
