Introduction

I find it difficult to believe this is the 10th anniversary of the Holistic Times newsletter. I have watched it grow from four pages of “what can we write about?” to 16 almost-overflowing pages. Ah, the problems of success!

When it comes to the Holistic Times, my mantra is “Bring it on!” Editing the newsletter has been one of the most enjoyable facets of my tenure (ten years) at CCNH. It has been a means of communicating important news from the college, spotlighting and celebrating accomplishments of students and graduates, and spreading the word about traditional naturopathy and holistic nutrition. More than that though, the newsletter, for me, has been a way to maintain a “personal” relationship with our students and alumni.

Originally hired as an Academic Advisor in 1993, I moved rather quickly into the Registrar’s position and, ultimately, became the college’s Webmaster. While these positions afforded me greater responsibilities and the chance to learn new skills, they distanced me from the students. The newsletter became a way for me to still communicate with the students, many of whom I had come to know quite well.

Looking back at the ten volumes of Holistic Times, I realize the newsletter has become an archive not only of CCNH’s 23-year history, but a public record of personal history as well. I can trace the development of my aesthetic tastes, writing style and professional demeanor. Past columns, articles, and announcements have reflected the times in which they were written. It is nearly impossible for me to write this introduction each quarter without at least meditating on events, rituals, or circumstances that touch each of us. This ever-changing blink of a universe provides endless inspiration for the Holistic Times and its contributors.

To celebrate this milestone, we are introducing a new look for the Holistic Times, and shifting its focus to bring readers even more health and nutrition knowledge. Inside you’ll find new columns, and updates in each new issue.

No celebration would be complete without raising a toast to the reason we are able to celebrate: CCNH students and graduates. Without you, there would be no reason for the newsletter. Thank you.

Happy New Year to all, Happy Anniversary to our long term readers, and Welcome to all our new ones.
