Introduction
Welcome to another year—Volume 11, Number 1—of the Holistic Times, the quarterly newsletter of Clayton College of Natural Health.
Even though it is late February as I sit and write, the year is young yet and full of possibility for dreamers like me. Maybe it’s because I recently celebrated my 35th birthday, or maybe it is my innately Piscean nature to ponder, dream, and wile time away, it just hit me like lightening that I need to “get on the ball” and bring these dreams to fruition—or else it will be October and I’ll be writing the introduction for the winter Holistic Times before I know it, still dreaming, and staring in the face of 36.
But I need inspiration. Fortunately, I don’t have to look any further than the lives of my coworkers and our college’s 24 year history. The sheer fact that this is Volume 11, Number 1 of Holistic Times is a source of inspiration. This issue marks the beginning of a new decade of health information, news and student accomplishments. As one cycle ends, another begins.
In reviewing this issue’s content, I see an emerging trend: the coming to fruition of others’ goals and dreams. A letter from CCNH President, Lloyd Clayton, gives an overview of our growth in 2003, but more than that it serves as a reminder of where we’ve been and where we are going.
Our health conference, now in its third year, has evolved from an idea we experimented with to an annual event that promises to be bigger and better each year. This year the conference filled to capacity so quickly that we already have folks waiting for news about the 2005 health conference.
Another source of much-needed inspiration has come in the way of a CCNH student, Jacque Miller. She enrolled in order to integrate natural health knowledge into an existing career as a human behavior specialist. Who knew we would end up being her students one day? Note: that’s a teaser; you’ll have to continue reading to learn more!
The most inspiring stories of all though are the aspirations of our 2004 scholarship and grant recipients. This year, in addition to the three scholarships and two grants we usually award, we received funds that allowed us to award four other scholarships to motivated students. This is just another way in which I can see a dream become a successful idea that allows others to bring their own dreams to fruition.
I am lucky to be able to look right in my own little world for a universe of examples of dreams coming true. I suspect that if we all looked a little closer at our own slices of the world, there would be countless examples of people spinning dreams into realities. It can be done! With that said, I wish you all a happy springtime and may you see your dreams become reality!
