Introduction

“Peace on earth, goodwill toward men.” Luke 2:14.

With a modernizing word change from “men” to “all,” these simple words resonate throughout the entire year for many people around the world. Although originally found in the Bible and often associated with Christmas, the words reach beyond the boundaries of Christianity and touch on fundamental human desires and needs. The words embody an ethic that, if practiced one person at a time in the microcosms of our own lives, could have a sustaining impact on the macrocosm: all life on earth.

Peace on earth begins with inner peace at the individual level. Goodwill emanates from a clear, focused mind and a nourished soul. By taking care of ourselves—body, mind and soul—we are better able to promote the values of peace and goodwill for all. We are able to lend ourselves to the higher purpose of living in ways that will ensure the environment’s ability to meet present and future needs.

CCNH celebrates its 25th anniversary next year. For 25 years, CCNH has taught people to be healthy so they, in turn, can teach others to be healthy. For 25 years, we have promoted finding inner peace and balance through living in harmony with nature. For 25 years, we have promoted spreading goodwill to all by encouraging our students and graduates to educate others about what they have learned. As time passes and we reach thousands of individuals, we are hopeful that we are encouraging sustainable diet, lifestyle, technological and environmental choices. It is up to each of us—the microcosms—to make choices that will positively impact the macrocosm: Life on Earth.

Be a part of our 25th anniversary by attending the annual natural health conference, Celebrating 25 Years: Educating the Leaders of Natural Health. Join us for four days (April 21–24) of informative classes, herb walks, and networking with fellow students. Meet the CCNH faculty and staff, take a Yoga or Pilates class and chat with best-selling authors at our conference book-signing.

We have a lot to cover in this last issue of Holistic Times for 2004—the conference brochure, an interview with Rudolph Ballentine, and all the content you expect in each issue. Looking forward to volume 13 of the Holistic Times, we’ll be telling the CCNH story in our words, and your words too, in a series of four articles that will span 2005’s four issues. There’s more news too, but you’ll have to wait until next year!

With that, I wish you all happy holidays. Be safe, healthy and happy, and when you find good cheer, spread it around! Keep the cycle going.
