What's New in Academics

Summer is always such a busy time for the academics department! In addition to handling student services such as coursework, e-mails, papers, and chats, during the summer months faculty members also attend conferences or trade shows.

In mid-June, Bree Garrett, Anita Barnett and I attended the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) Conference. In July, Bree Garrett and Holly Cowan attended the Integrative Medicine Conference produced by Crayhon Research in Colorado. Kristi Fletcher, IT Coordinator, attended a WebCT© conference in San Francisco, CA, and brought home an even greater excitement and knowledge about this important feature and learning tool for our students.

Additionally, academics experienced some staff changes this summer. Penny Gagliano, Joyce Rogers and Karen Pollard, all academic secretaries, joined the newly formed operations support department. Also, Byron Spraggins joined us in July as a faculty assistant, helping to ensure that your exams and shipping approvals are handled as efficiently and quickly as possible. Byron has a degree in Business Administration from Stillman College.

Two other major enhancements occurred as summer marched on. Anita Barnett, formerly Faculty Coordinator, was promoted to Registrar and Director of Records. Holly Cowan, faculty advisor with CCNH for five years, was promoted to Lead Faculty Advisor. Holly assists me with day-to-day academic issues and the management of faculty workload and grading.

In this season of exciting change for academics, it’s invigorating to see our school continue to grow internally as well as in numbers of students and graduates. I consider myself very lucky to help lead in our continued evolution. I thank you for being a part of our school life and our history.
