Curriculum Development Report
Two Introductions
The first introduction is Lori Hamilton, our new assistant editor. Many CCNH students may have spoken with Lori, because she worked in student services and as an admissions assistant before moving to the curriculum development department. After plenty of experience in the corporate world before coming to CCNH in the late 1990s, she is especially pleased with our nontraditional and much more flexible, family atmosphere. Besides holding a journalism degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Lori is a published poet and competition–winning poetry slammer. Needless to say, she is glad to be spending her days working with words and exercising her journalistic skills.
When she isn’t editing CCNH courses or writing her own poetry, Lori enjoys listening to almost every genre of music from country and rockabilly to jazz and gospel. Her favorite films — such as David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive — are complex and rather dark, and she enjoys reading the poetry of Sylvia Plath, Allen Ginsburg, and Walt Whitman. Her dreams include spending more time on stage as a performance poet. She believes that her position as assistant editor at CCNH is a bridge that allows her to be practical as well as adventurous and creative.

The second introduction is a new project, which may prove to be exciting, and will certainly be a lot of fun. In the curriculum development department we are faced with the quandary of finding so many books and so — relatively speaking — few places where we can use them. Some may contain wonderful information but are not quite right for any of our courses. Others are great books but only peripherally related to topics concerning natural health. Many are books that we would love to share with others. We are now working on a quarterly newsletter — via e–mail and to subscribers only — that will highlight some of our favorite books. Topics will include natural health and holistic nutrition as well as a wide range of other subjects. So stay tuned… more to come.
