Abstract Reality
A Declaration of Independence for Americans’ Health Freedoms

Current research indicates that Americans are being bombarded by toxins every day, from pharmaceutical drugs, chemicals, heavy metals, food additives, fluoride, genetically-modified and irradiated foods, and food-borne pathogens, to environmental pollutants and other contaminants. In an attempt to eliminate or greatly reduce these problems, nutrient-dense organic foods and/or high-quality dietary supplements are required. However, ongoing Congressional legislation may adversely affect Americans’ free access to dietary supplements which were granted under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act(DSHEA) of 1994. In addition, Codex Alimentarius, which was adopted by the United Nations to set the food safety standards for international food trade, threatens to rob Americans of their unalienable rights. Codex’ Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements will adversely impact American consumers’ right to choose organic foods and dietary supplements as they know them today.

As such, this writing suggests the need for a personal declaration of independence from the forces that seek to subvert Americans’ health choices. This paper also examines the conflicts of interest that pervade the various entities. This topic is relevant because of the eminent need to alert Americans that their health freedoms are in danger. Practical suggestions for the application of the findings are discussed. Further research is required to uncover the long-term consequences of such hazards to humans as irradiated foods, genetically-modified crops, and various additive chemicals.
