Through the Eyes of the Masters A History of Iridology by Ellen Tart-Jensen, Ph.D., D.Sc.
Clayton College of Natural Health’s Natural Reader Press is pleased to announce the publication of Ellen Tart-Jensen’s new book, Through the Eyes of the Masters: A History of Iridology. Inspired by her work with her mentor and late father-in-law, Dr. Bernard Jensen, Tart-Jensen’s book brings to life the history of the art and practice of iridology and its earliest proponents and practitioners.
In the book’s foreword, Tart-Jensen recalls Jensen’s classroom, which contained a set of elegant chairs that had been given to him from a castle he visited in Europe. Jensen roped off the chairs and hung name placards on each chair for the great iridology teachers who came before him. Among those names were Ignatz von Peczely, Nils Liljequist, Henry Edward Lane, Henry Lindlahr, Joseph Deck, and Joseph Angerer, “When Doctor (as we called him) would teach the history of iridology, he would call those names and point to the chairs as if those great iridologists were really there with us. Indeed, he had known and met many of them during his life,” writes Tart-Jensen.
“When I listened to those stories and researched the history of iridology through my collection of special old books, I began to realize that many iridologists in the United States today don’t know about these great men and women and the trails they blazed ahead of us,” she continues. “It became my desire to write this history to introduce those great iridologists, share their stories, and, hopefully, help to keep their works alive in the minds and hearts of iridologists today. For they are our roots, our inheritance, and truly the shoulders on which we in the field of iridology now stand.”
Tart-Jensen is a CCNH adjunct faculty member and repeat conference presenter. In addition to writing about and teaching iridology, she maintains a busy iridology practice, Lifestyle Counseling Service, where she works with clients in person as well as with iris photographs from around the world. Tart- Jensen also serves on the board of directors of the International Iridology Practitioners Association and as Vice-President of Bernard Jensen International.
